Characteristics
* The Red-Eared Slider Turtle is a subspecies of the pond slider. It is an aquatic turtle and a diurnal animal.
* The head, legs, and neck are greenish with yellow stripes. But, the colors may range from bright greens and yellows in the early years of their lives, to more olives, brown, and sometimes black in their old age.
* These creatures are named for the orange or red markings that they possess on the back of both of their eyes.
*The upper part of the shell is divided into scutes, which appear to be separate plates that are placed together to form the shell. The plastron or bottom
shell possess yellow with dark blotches on each
scute.
* The Red-Eared Slider Turtle is an excellent pet
and it has also been called the "dime store turtle."
* The males tend to be smaller than the females. In
addition, the males have longer claws on their front
feet.
* The length of an adult carapace is approximately
5 to 11 inches. They can weigh about 2 to 3 pounds.
